PAL-V Liberty: The Street Legal Flying Car

Meet the PAL-V Liberty, the world’s first flying car from The Netherlands. This sleek and versatile trailblazer is constructed with solid Dutch engineering was made with the highest safety standards as its top priority. The PAL-V Liberty’s design was made intentionally as “the most compact flying car possible,” so you can park easily anywhere. It’s 80% less affected by turbulence and is self-stabilizing in gusts of wind. Should you be stranded at an airstrip due to bad weather, you can simply “outsmart the weather” and drive to better weather and visibility, and take off. What other car is really engineered to beat the weather like that!

This flying car is also said to have a sports car quality with a “unique ’tilting sports car’ feeling on twisting roads.” According to Hans Joore, test-driver of PAL-V Liberty, it’s “very smooth and responsive to the steering and with a weight of just 660 kg it accelerates really well.” He also called the driving experience “sensational.” While the PAL-V Liberty is constructed with robust and innovative Dutch engineering, its designers also took a cue from the Italians. The PAL-V Liberty has an elegant Italian design – thanks to collaborations with Italian design bureaus that perfected its refined shapes and rich colors.

Now street legal, this powerful stunner can cruise European roads. Recently the PAL-V Liberty passed strict European road admission tests. It’s now allowed to be driven on the streets with an official license plate. This comes after the completion of an intense drive test program that took place on test tracks since February of 2020, which included high-speed ovals, brake, and noise pollution testing.

While the Liberty now complies with road regulations, the team is pushing hard to try and reach yet another milestone and get the Liberty to be certified for flying as well. That way its passengers can legally take flight and ditch those dreaded traffic jams! In the meantime, the PAL-V Liberty will be undergoing endurance testing for several months. Its design has been going through aviation certification with EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) since 2015 and its finalization is expected in 2022.
